Redshift adjusts the color temperature of your screen according toyour surroundings. Spreadsheet software for mac. This may help your eyes hurt less if you areworking in front of the screen at night. This program is inspired byf.lux (please seethis post for the reason why I startedthis project).
Redshift is not available for Mac but there are plenty of alternatives that runs on macOS with similar functionality. The most popular Mac alternative is f.lux, which is free. If that doesn't suit you, our users have ranked 48 alternatives to Redshift and 16 are available for Mac so hopefully you can find a suitable replacement. SQLPro is a 100% native Mac app. This means it can and will outperform any of the other Java based database management interfaces. SQLPro is independently developed.

Project description
Redshift adjusts thecolor temperatureaccording to the position of the sun. A different color temperature isset during night and daytime. During twilight and early morning, thecolor temperature transitions smoothly from night to daytimetemperature to allow your eyes to slowly adapt. At night the colortemperature should be set to match the lamps in your room. This istypically a low temperature at around 3000K-4000K (default is3700K). During the day, the color temperature should match the lightfrom outside, typically around 5500K-6500K (default is 5500K). Thelight has a higher temperature on an overcast day.
Technical details
On linux and similar systems the color temperature is set with an Xserver extension. On the windows platform it is set using GDI. Thecolor temperature is changed by setting appropriate gamma ramps. Ifyou have configured your own gamma ramps they will be overwritten butin that case you probably care too much about color accuracy to usethis program anyway. Your graphics driver and X server needs to eithersupport at least RANDR version 1.3 or the VidMode extension. Redshiftcan also be applied to the Linux console by explicitly selecting theDRM driver.
Redshift assumes that your screen will produce light at a color of6500K when no color correction is applied by the program. Thus, 6500Kis the neutral temperature. Setting the color temperature to a valuehigher than this results in more blue light, and setting a lower valuewill result in more red light.
Configuration options
Redshift will continously update the color temperature at regularintervals. One shot mode can be selected if you only want to do oneadjustment. The color adjustments done by Redshift can be temporarilytoggled on and off by sending it the USR1 signal:
The command line options are explained by running
redshift -h
. Alloptions have reasonable defaults. You’ll need to specify your currentlocation only if redshift can’t obtain the location from an automaticlocation provider. All color adjustment methods will be tried untilone that works is found unless you explicitly select one. The sameapplies to location providers. When you specify a location manually, note that a location south ofequator has a negative latitude and a location west of Greenwich (e.gthe Americas) has a negative longitude.

Beware that the location providers are not perfect. The GeoCluemethod provides a location through theGeoClue framework, which may or may not work out-of-the-box. If it doesn’t work checkthat your Geoclue installation is properly configured. The positionfrom Geoclue will currently not be updated regularly while Redshift isrunning but this is planned for a future release.

A configuration file can be created, but the documentation is a bitsparse. You’ll have to create it manually and put it in
~/.config/redshift.conf
. The following is an example of aconfiguration file:Status icon
Start the program
redshift-gtk
instead of redshift
, with the samearguments as you would pass to redshift
. This will create an iconfor Redshift in the system tray. The icon will allow you to toggleRedshift on and off. Thanks goes to theTango Desktop Project for theicon. Redshift GTK requires at least Python 3.2 (since Redshift 1.9).Related software

Known bugs and limitations
Red Shift Apps Mac Free
- Redshift won’t affect the color of your mouse cursor when yourgraphics driver is configured to use hardware cursors. Some graphicsdrivers have an option to disable hardware cursors in
xorg.conf
. - Certain video drivers do not support adjustable gamma ramps. In somecases Redshift will fail with an error message, but other driverssilently ignore adjustments to the gamma ramp.
- Redshift has a brightness adjustment setting, but it does notwork the way most people might expect. In fact it is a fakebrightness adjustment obtained by manipulating the gamma ramps, which means that it does not reduce the backlight of thescreen. Preferable only use it if your normal backlight adjustmentis too coarse-grained.
